About gene

Gene has been married to his wife, Julie, since 1985. They raised three children in Springfield, and now have 12 grandchildren. Gene is a true endurance sports enthusiast. His hobbies include biking, running, and rock climbing. He wants to be a servant to the church and pray for its people.

Where were you born?

Ft. Thomas, Kentucky

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was little I wanted to be a fire fighter.

What are two things nobody would guess about you?

1. I actually met Bob Hope once.

2. I once lived in Japan.

What are three things you cannot live without?

  1. I would never want to live without my high school sweetheart and wife, Julie.

  2. I couldn’t imagine living without my children and their spouses and the 13 grandchildren they’ve given us.

  3. I have this space in my basement where I have my workout mat and a chair I use for sacred reading and prayer. I wouldn’t want to be without that space.

What is some of your favorite music?

Hip hop when I mow, Reggae when I hang out by the pool, 70-90’s rock when I’m working out, Gregorian Chants in the background during prayer and Country when Julie’s riding with me in the car.

What is one of your guilty pleasures?

Ice cream…before bed. It’s been a real struggle.

What is your favorite place to eat?

Speak Easy Ramen, hands down. Such a dive but their Tonkatsu Ramen is delish and authentic.

What is your favorite Bible verse?

I have been hanging onto this one for a long time. Every year I consider coming up with a new life verse, but it still hasn’t happened. Here it is:

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

Romans 8:28
