What’s happening in the Dominican Republic?

The Dominican Republic is a fairly stable country with a democratically elected president. However, examples of extreme poverty and extreme wealth are everywhere. One of the biggest sources of conflict and heartache is the relationship between the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Haitians are being rounded up every day and sent back to a country at war within its own borders. Claire Nolan spent many years at RPC and now her mission is to shape the lives of those who will shape the future of the Dominican Republic. “My students live in a world that is completely separate from the average Dominican. It is a wild world to step into, and it is incredibly hard for them to see their need for Jesus.”

how can i help?

Pray for Claire and her students. Her prayer is twofold. First, these sweet students would see that they were made in the image of a creator who loves them just as they are and who desires a relationship with them. The second is that out of a relationship with Jesus they would be able to begin to think critically about the impact they can have on their city and country. Pray also for wisdom as Claire assumes leadership of the school Youth Group – Thursday Night Live (TNL).

what’s the impact?

These students are going to be the future leaders and major business owners of the city of Santiago and the Dominican Republic. They are going to be able to make change happen on a level that can affect the country one day. They will have the power to choose to do good. As these kids begin relationships with Jesus, it will change their lives and the lives of their families. As they learn to live like Jesus, it will affect how they make decisions and what they advocate for when they are in positions of power.
